Romance Book Junction

Where romance readers and writers come together.

What kind of covers do you all prefer? Do you like scenery, old fashioned bodice rippers, hero alone, heroine alone, flowers, cartoons? I think I covered all the covers (no pun intended! LOL!) that are out there. Add your own if I missed one.

When replying, please don't talk about the covers that you don't like. There could be an author on this forum with one of those covers and we don't want to hurt any feelings!

Yay! That's my favorite, too! I am so sad that they are getting away from those now.

I'm with you. I want to see a man and a woman on the cover...just the guy is okay, too! I've been really lucky with my covers and have loved or at least really liked all but one. The one I didn't like was Forbidden Fires. The guy was supposed to be an Indian with long black hair, they gave him short curly hair. I always hated that one!

LOL! Don't ya just love that? Do the cover artists read the books?

I remember reading one book years ago where the man and woman on the cover looked absolutely NOTHING like the characters. I remember that I kept flipping back to the cover everytime the author described a feature of the character, only to shake my head in disgust.

Gah. I hate that!! My publisher once tried to give me a cover with a blonde on it. My main heroine was a brunette. I was like... hello, did you even read the book? Any who, I think all your covers are beautiful, its what drew me to them in the first place :)

It depends on the man on the cover! I never liked Fabio and don't find him sexy at all, but as an author who also writes erotic romances (under a different name) I am loving the chests of the men on the covers I have been seeing lately. Big improvement. I would definitely rather see those then the ones with flowers on 'em. I also love the model they put on my own upcoming release in April from Cerridwen Press. Really cool Anyway, I guess it just depends. I hate the cartoon drawing covers some of them have been putting out.

I love the man chest covers, too. As Sales Manager at my bookstore though, I have to be very careful merching some of those. If it's just a chest, I don't worry too much. But, if it goes too far below the chest and has too much skin showing, I can't put them on endcaps or faceouts. (Believe me, customers WILL complain!)

There is a method to my madness when I merch the romance section. I always try to put either my favorite authors and/or authors that I know personally (internet friends) on faceout or endcaps. That's how I know when someone has messed with my romance section. That section is my baby and my co-workers know not to mess with it. LOL! The other day I was doing faceouts and I saw an author that I know from online, so I wanted to put her book on a faceout. I looked at the cover and decided that I'd better not. It was a full frontal view of a man turned slightly sideways, completely naked, and his leg was bent up so that his thigh was covering the important area. LOL!

Hugs!
