Newbie writers

Just got here, and I'm creating a group! Goodness! But I'm going to do it anyway, okay?! This group is for unpublished writers who want to and are writing in the romantic genre. Paranormal, historical, contemporary--you name it!

I'm a newbie. My first contemporary romance was released on January 5th from Blade Publishing. I have another title in editing right now. And I know exactly what Torie meant aboutlearnig the basic tools. There should be a cheat sheet somewhere.

I'm a newbie as of last June (though I dabbled for several years). My best tip is to find a writer's association and join. I joined ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) last June, and can only stand in awe of what it has done for my journey in the world of writing.

My second tip is to find really good books on the craft of writing and absorb them. If you want specifics, let me know, and I'll point you to the ones that have helped me the most.

Pre-pubs, un-pubs, newbies... let's share with one anotherthe speedbumps that we came across as we began this journey. For me, one of them was attending a local group where unfamilar abbreviations left me out of the "know" and made me feel stupid. New members don't know what they don't know. Give us some basic tools---abbreviations, plotting strategies, how to keep records, etc.

Wow! What a great idea for a group. Not sure if I'm considered a newbie or not. I've been writing for many years, but don't have any romances pubbed yet. Does that count?

I have had newspaper articles pubbed. But, am still waiting for that romance book contract.

Hugs!

Thanks for starting this group just in time for me. I haven't done much book writing yet, but would like to get that great American western novel that has been in my head for 20 years written down. Make more room for all of the new stories that keep floating in. Wow, that dream last night felt like a paranormal romance to me.
