Writer
What sub-genres do you read and/or write
I read anything but Sci-Fi and Vampires. I write historical and contemporary westerns.
Tell us a little about you:
I've had a hankering to write since I wrote plays for stuff animals in grade school. In High school, I learned the power of words when an English teacher read one of my assignments aloud in class and everyone was silent afterwards.

I began seriously writing romance ten years ago and after many "enjoyed it, but" from agents and editors, I found a small press, The Wild Rose Press who took a chance on me. I now have three books published. The most recent received an EPPIE award for Best Contemporary Romance. the first two books are historical westerns. One is the first book of a five book series. The second book will be out in e-book on June 6th and print on December 5th.
What country do you live in:
USA
What state or province do you live in:

Promotion

I'm planning to make a book trailer for my upcoming release "Outlaw in Petticoats". I need to round up photos and see if my talented brother and nephew can pick out a tune that would go with the photos. Seems easier and cheaper than purchasing and perusing music to find a match.

I'm excited to visiting with others about it. Everyone who visits will get their name put into hat. I'll draw before the hour is up and the winner will recieve a T-shirt with my book cover on it. It should be a fun night!

Outlaw in Petticoats Released Today!

The second book of my Halsey brother series was released today in Ebook at The Wild Rose Press. http://www.thewildrosepress.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=807 Outlaw in Petticoats is a historical western romance and has so far garnered a 5 spur review at Love Western Romances and 4 cup review at Coffee Time Reviews. Here is the blurb: Maeve Loman has had her heart crushed before; she isn't about to have it happen again. When she takes Zeke Halsey up on his offer to help… Continue

5 Spur Review!

My soon to be released (ebook May 9th) Outlaw in Petticoats received a 5 spur review from the Love Western Romances web site. This is what the reviewer had to say: "With Zeke and Maeve, Ms. Jager has created two complex and compelling characters. Swept along in their adventure, the reader can’t help but be stirred by a man who is prepared to work so hard for love while relating to a woman who fears the trap of commitment. Ms. Jager’s emotional development of both characters is made more evocati… Continue

Good News

I found out today my release date on my next book, Outlaw in Petticoats has been moved up a month. It will now be out in ebook on May 5th and print on November 7th. So that extra month I thought I had to get promotion in gear has now flown out the window! But that's fine. I'd rather have a book coming out in November. Gives people more time to but them for Christmas presents!

Helpful Hints About Dialogue

We had an editor from Harvest House attend the Central Oregon Writers Guild meeting last night. He gave a talk on dialogue. Though I do most of what he was talking about, I thought I'd put down a few of the things that resonated with me. 1) Would the dialog be interesting enough for an eavesdropper to wonder about what is being said? 2)Let dialogue show the emotions. 3) Characters should talk to each other and not the reader. 4) Use "beats"* to show actions, define character, or vary the ryt… Continue

Thank you for the card, Victoria. Thank you, everyone who has asked me to be a friend. One of these days, I'll get my act together and use this the way it's supposed to be used.

If anyone is looking for a great read, I just finished the third book of Linda Lael Miller's McKettrick books. They were three books I enjoyed from the beginning to the end.

Hi Paty,
Jagger is a Yokshire name, even though Mick Jagger comes from London. It is very common in the north of England. I have Jaggers in the family and I have always liked the name, so I picked it for my pen name. It might have come over with the Danes/Vikings who invaded and stayed.
